Recipe: Fondue Party

Fondue Party
Fondue Party

Fondue Parties top my list of Favorite Things to Suggest For Every Situation. I’m usually not one for audience participation or interactive activities, but this is where I make an exception. The history, the planning, the execution, the enjoyment, the fondue virgins- every bit is great. The best part is that you have the ability to take it  any level of intricacy. And for this particular night last month, I’m proud to say I choose the laziest way possible.

To celebrate, I thought I’d share the list of items and menu for a quick & dirty, lazy fondue party.

Foundation: Swiss Knight L’Original Swiss Cheese Fondue. I found mine at the local Hy-Vee but you can order it online at Amazon or Zabar’s.

Pretzels and Bread

Pork Liver Pate and Amana Summer Sausage

Green Olives a la Provencale, or any kind of olives

Red Fruits, Honey and Malbec Wine Sauce (you should attempt to put this on everything. seriously.)

Mustard- this is what I used

Horseradish Cheese spread

Fruits: Green apples, red apples, pears

Veggies: Carrots, purple cauliflower and broccoli (the purple cauliflower was cheaper, because, well, I’m a cheap ass BUT it was also festive, interesting and fun, and no one else knew purple cauli existed- big hit!)

After a few cocktails, you may find yourself stacking bread, with fondue cheese, with spreadable, with summer sausage, with fruit sauce and an apple garnish. Just warning you, I’ve seen it done before. And it’s damn good.
